It never ceases to amaze me how interesting the media find divorce and family law issues.
Just last week tabloids and broadsheets alike were awash with stories that the wife of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is filing for divorce.
When was the last time Italian politics made the papers? Apparantly it's more important for us to know about the private lives of public figures than it is to know about their policies. I don't think so.
Divorce and relationship breakdown is a private matter and in my view certainly shouldn't be dragged through the media, especially when even the reputable press insist on gettting some of the legal facts wrong on a regular basis.
Whatever the facts of the Berlusconi case surely the couple deserve the dignity afforded most 'normal' couples, to keep the grounds for divorce out of the newspapers and not have their financial settlement shared across the airwaves?
