Family Law Blog: Time for solicitors to be banned from dealing with divorce

Any solicitor is allowed to advise on and deal with a divorce! It does not matter that they may never have done so before and have no good knowledge of the subject, except passing the relevant paper when they were at College of Law!

It is time to ban solicitors, indeed all lawyers and that includes Judges,  from dealing with divorce unless they have special training.

Andrew - Love your fairness in debating the stupidity if being represented by Solicitors who know nothing about the years of misery before Divorce. In many cases Divorce is the only mentally healthy solution for all! ...

Couldn't agree with you more. I am mid divorce at the moment and the other sides solicitor is the local one man band that deals with everything and sometimes I think I'd be better off banging my head off the wall as they refuse to negociate anything, agree anything and won't even agree to the points on which a divorce will be granted. They want to put it to a judge, who will probably refuse a divorce on loads of grounds they haven't met, and we'll just go round in circles for years to come. Getting the impression they are just working for the fees!!...
