Family lawfirm bucks the trend and appoints three new lawyers

Wednesday 29 April 2009 5:30 PM
A specialist Midlands family law firm has welcomed three new recruits in the last month as it continues to buck the economic trend.

While many prominent law firms are laying off staff or freezing pay, including some in the so called Magic Circle of top London firms, Stratford based Woolley & Co, solicitors is continuing to grow to cope with demand.

Managing partner Andrew Woolley established the firm in 1996 after leaving a position as a partner at a prominent Warwickshire practice. The firm, who deal in all issues of family law, including divorce, legal separation, prenuptial agreements and children, follow a new business model which enables their team of family lawyers to work from home offices rather than town centre bases using new technology to streamline office practices.

He feels the approach has left Woolley & Co. better equipped to cope with changing market conditions. “Since the end of March we have welcomed three new family solicitors, seven in total since September last year, and I am actively looking to add another two in the coming months in Birmingham and Stratford, to keep up with demand for our services,” said Mr. Woolley, whose network of family lawyers now spans across the Midlands, London, East Anglia the South and South West.

“It is no secret that during the down-turn many people’s domestic relationships have been put under strain and break-ups are rising, leading to more work for some family lawyers.

What we are finding is that because of the way we operate – with transparent fixed fee services which can be bought direct from our website – people are finding this a very convenient way of operating to fit in with their already busy lives.

“We also make the best use of technology to send documents and keep in touch with clients, building our service around them rather than what is convenient to us. I think this is why the firm continues to grow while some others are being forced to cut back.”
Woolley & Co. have attracted a high calibre of divorce lawyers to the firm, the last five recruits have all been partners or heads of departments and contacted Woolley & Co. directly.

“There is no doubt that there are still some difficult times ahead. I feel that the only way many firms will survive is by adapting the way they work, offering flexible solutions to both clients and employees,” added Mr. Woolley.
