"Tanya I am so sorry to see what has happened. Yes, there is a lot that could be done. Do take advice urgently. Some law firms, ours included, offer some initial help without obligation."

"The law may well change soon. I know that certain coalition MPs are keen to give automatic rights to grandparents. Maybe they have been reading my past Blogs on family law on this very point! "

"Whilst this page was very helpful in outlining the lack of legal rights of Grandparents, is there any time soon when this law may be changed to fall in line with that of the USA?"

"I have looked after my nephew and had him in my care for the past 5 years with his mother only having him one night a year( christmas eve ) due to her only having him when it is suitable for her to do so. She has now decided (after much drug and alchohol and suicide attempts) that she wants to be a mother and have him in her care full time with me having no acess....I only want whats best for my grandson and whatever makes him happy but i am deeply worried due to the fact that her last attempt to kill herself was only last week. is there anything i can do to gain acess or have someone check on his safety while in her care as i feel she is really unstable and dangerous for my highly hyperactive 8 year old to be around when she has a temper as eratic as she has.
